Day 1: Arrival in Hamburg
Arrive in the Elbmetropolis of Hamburg. Your hotel is located in the city center and not far from the cycling trail. Explore the diversity this beautiful city has to offer.
Day 2: Hamburg > Elmshorn or Glückstadt, ~62 or 84 km (39-52 miles)
Cycle along the Elbe River, through Blankensee and to Wedel. Continue through marshland protected by dikes, through Uetersen, and to Elmshorn. Spend the night there or in Glückstadt.
Day 3: Elmshorn or Glückstadt > Brunsbüttel, ~36 or 58 km (22-36 miles)
Cycle to the charming small town of Glückstadt and to Brunsbüttel. The Kiel Canal begins in Brunsbüttel. In the large sluice gate system you will see some Ocean liners. Spend the night in Brunsbüttel.
Day 4: Brunsbüttel > Büsum, ~60 km (37 miles)
Once you have past the dikes, you will see the Wadden Sea. Cross the vast ‘Dithmarscher Land’ towards North Frisia. You’ll soon reach Büsum. Stay overnight in or near Büsum.
Day 5: Büsum > Husum, ~58 or 91 km (36-57 miles)
Before you leave, you should visit the "Blanker Hans" storm surge adventure world (on your own). Further along the route is the Eidersperrwerk and Tönning with its MultimarWattforum ( visitor centre of the national park with exhibitions, aquariums). Optionally via St. Peter Ording or directly to Husum.
Husum. Spend the night in Husum.
Day 6: Husum > Niebüll or Dagebüll, ~65 or 83 km (40-52 miles)
You can either cycle along the coast line or take the shorter route directly to Hamburger Hallig and over the dikes to Dagebüll. The ferry to Föhr/Amrum leaves from there. If you like, you can take the train to Niebüll. The fare is payable on-site. There, you can visit the museum of natural history. Stay overnight near Niebüll/Dagebüll.
