Day 2: Assisi - Spoleto, ~50 km/31 miles
Today you will have your first break in Spello, a walled town lying on the ridge of Monte Subasio. Of all the cities in this area, Spello is the one that counts the largest number of Roman evidences. In the church of Santa Maria Maggiore you can admire the frescoes of Pinturicchio and Perugino. Cycle on crossing the Umbrian countryside towards Foligno, famous for its knight historical ring jousting tournament ‘Giostra della Quintana’. Piazza della Repubblica and Piazza del Duomo are also definitely worth a visit. A small detour leads you to Bevagna and afterwards you can cycle on towards Trevi following the main itinerary. This stage ends in Spoleto, having origins in the Roman period, but preserved as a medieval village, once under the authority of the Papal States. Nowadays Spoleto is a flourishing cultural center of international fame.
Day 3: Spoleto - Todi, ~60 km/37 miles
From Spoleto you cycle on towards the village of Castel Ritardi and from this point you leave the Umbrian valley to enter the lovely hills covered with oak and olive trees as far as Todi, considered one of the most beautiful medieval cities of Italy, perched on a hill and overlooking the Tiber valley. A tangle of roads leads to stately buildings in tufa and offer the most splendid surprises. In the picturesque Piazza del Popolo you will find important monuments like the cathedral and Palazzo del Capitano.
Day 4: Todi - Orvieto, ~45 km/28 miles
This breathtaking city was built on the summit of a butte of white tuff and therefore it seems like a fortress standing out on the impressive cliffs and dominating the Umbrian countryside. The Gothic façade of the cathedral of Orvieto is just one of the many unique monuments covering millenniums of history. When you leave Todi you have to follow the course of the Tiber as far as the Tiber River Park. The beautiful river banks are wide, irregular and covered with willows and poplars. You cycle on in the wild nature reserve until you reach Lake Corbara, an area famous for its delicious red wine. Leave the lake behind you and you will see the valley of the Paglia River, which flows into the Tiber in this area. Cycle up the river and admire the white tuff cliff and Orvieto emerge out of the splendid rolling hills.
Day 5: Orvieto - Città della Pieve, ~45 km/28 miles

Day 6: Città della Pieve - Perugia, ~60 km/37 miles + 20 km/12 miles per train
You follow the road at the foot of the hill towards the flourishing small Renaissance city of Corciano. The itinerary continues as far as the capital city of Umbria: Perugia. This city was built as an acropolis on the hills and has a splendid old town center consisting of 5 quarters surrounded by Etruscan city walls. You should definitely take a break in Piazza Grande overlooked by Palazzo dei Priori, the cathedral and the Fontana Maggiore.
Day 7: Perugia - Assisi, ~35 km/22 miles

The town of Assisi will astonish you with its art, monuments and the great atmosphere.
