France-Bike, your partner for outstanding cycling holidays presents this bike tour through an unknown but beautiful region of Germany. Surprising insights and views string together like pearls of a necklace making the Lahn Valley one of the most interesting cycling regions in Germany. From the source to the mouth - the river Lahn makes cyclist's' hearts beating faster on 235 km (with a difference of altitude of 600 m). Whether a short trip or a whole week, you will make all your wishes come true. The classical cycle trip is 7 days long.
Day 1: Arrival in Marburg
You should make enough time for the visit of the historic old town and the Elisabeth-church (arrival by German railways possible/ parking lot at the hotel/ rental bike at the hotel).
Day 2: Marburg - Wetzlar, ~54 km/34 miles
Let's get started for the first stage of your journey. Today you cycle through the wide valley of the Lahn, along idyllic situated lakes, to Wetzlar. Discover Wetzlar's worth seeing Old Town and enjoy the spicy specialty of the region - a 'Handkäs mit Musik' (a cheese with onions in oil).
Day 3: Wetzlar - Weilburg, ~40 km/25 miles
You leave Wetzlar by using the old medieval stone bridge. Soon you reach mine Fortuna, the only ore mine in Germany where ore mining is shown with the help of original equipment. The stage to Weilburg is unforgettable. The renaissance palace of Weilburg is located at a rock high above the river Lahn.
Day 4: Weilburg - Limburg, ~40 km/25 miles
The course of the river winds its way between Taunus and Westerwald. You cycle on the asphalted path via Aumenau and Runkel to Limburg, well-known for the cathedral.
Day 5: Limburg - Bad Ems, ~47 km/29 miles
Today you enjoy another great scenic experience: away from all traffic the journey leads through an untouched valley from Diez to Balduinstein. This day has two ascends. Recover during a break at monastery Arnstein, at Nassau castle or in the historic pub at the Lahn. At the end of the day you reach Bad Ems, one of the most beautiful and traditional health resorts in Germany.
Day 6: Bad Ems - Braubach or Koblenz, ~46 km/28 miles
After 12 km the Rhine valley opens up in front of your eyes. Here you enjoy the highlight of your journey with a trip via Boppart and St. Goar to the legendary Lorelei. By ship you go back to Braubach. It is also possible to spend the last night in Koblenz.
