France-Bike proposes an outstanding bike tour from Paris, the city of love to the famous Mont Saint Michel along the cycle route Véloscenie. This tour features five of the World Cultural Heritage sites listed by the UNESCO. You will discover a lot of historical park and forest landscapes, Norman villages, beautiful monuments and keep the best till last: the abbey of Mont Saint Michel.

Day 1: Arrival in Paris.
Arrival in Paris. There is so much to discover in Paris. Difficult to know where to start but tomorrow morning you can continue your sight seeing, Versailles is only few kilometers away.
Day 2: Paris > Versailles, ~36 km
Leaving Paris you are cycling past the Notre Dame Cathedral and continuing through the Saint Germain district via the Coulée Verte, a former railway line that leads through the magnificent park of Château de Sceaux Castle to Versailles. Visit the famous Versailles Castle or its impressive gardens.
Day 3: Versailles > Epernon, ~69 km
You leave Versailles and enter the picturesque Vallée de la Chevreuse. Castles, museums, wash-houses, small lovely villages are on your way. You will have the possibility to stop by a farm or small producers of beer, cheese and sirop in the Regional Natural Park…You will then enter the Domaine de Rambouillet and its castle, former residency of the kings of France. You will cycle through the green lands of the castle.
Day 4: Epernon > Illiers Combray, ~66 km
The highlight of this day is Chartres. The Cathedral, with its famous stained glass windows, has been classified by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site and represents the archetype of the High Gothic Cathedral. Chartres has never been destroyed. While at many cathedrals the portal figures perished in the iconoclasm of the Huguenots or the French Revolution and numerous glass paintings were destroyed, in Chartres the highly significant sculptural decoration of the cathedral is preserved almost intact, as well as 176 windows. Therefore, no other cathedral can convey the atmosphere of the high gothic so intensely and unadulterated. In any case, this is a worthwhile stop on the way to Illiers.
Day 5: Illiers Combray > Condeau, ~56 km
Characteristic for this stage are the gardens that are on the way to the abbey gardens of the Abbaye de Thiron-Gardais. Continue to Nogent-le-Rotrou with its medieval fortress.
Day 6: Condeau > Alençon , ~69 km
Today's route leads past manor houses and mills, through picturesque villages you will cycle through the Regional Park Normandy-Maine to Alençon. The top "Point d'Alencon" was included in the list of UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage.
Day 7: Alençon > Bagnoles-de-l’Orne, ~54 km
Today is a little more challenging but the scenery is breath taking and you will enjoy wonderful view point all along the cycling day. Along the route, you can visit the impressive small château de Carrouges. The gardens of the castle could be a good option for a picnic. Your day ends in Bagnoles de l’Ornes. This city is full of charms, especially its Belle Epoque neighborhood. The city is also well known for its baths so why not enjoying a relaxing swim or a massage in the baths ?
Day 8: Bagnoles-de-l’Orne > St-Hilaire-du-Harcouët, ~61 km
The medieval town of Domfront is the first cultural stop before you reach the largest waterfalls in northwestern France. On the way you drive past the numerous typical Norman farmhouses with apple orchards.
Day 9: St Hilaire > Mont St Michel, ~61 km
However many images you’ve seen of the Mont St-Michel rising majestically from its massive bay, coming in person is a moving experience. Magical Mont-St-Michel. The sight is stunning, the island topped by its Gothic masterpiece of an abbey. The bay is subject to some of the biggest tidal variations in Europe, so the views change hourly. At high tide, the island is surrounded by water, but as the waters recede, a vast network of channels is revealed.
