Enjoy the ambience of castle hotels and manor houses on this special bike tour in Northern Germany. This well planned cycle tour takes you from Waren by Lake Müritz through the Lake District and on to “Mecklenburg’s Switzerland”.
Day 1: Arrival in Klink
Travelers are responsible for their own transportation to Klink. Your destination is a castle hotel in close proximity to Lake Müritz. You may want to arrive early enough to explore the lakeshore area or take a boat out onto the lake. Spend the night in Klink.
Day 2: Around Klink, ~53 km
Cycle west of Lake Müritz to Röbel. Explore the peaceful little town. Enjoy the view of land and sea from the Marienkirche church tower. Continue on to the holiday resort ‘Land Fleesensee’. On your way you will pass by old oak trees, magic lakes and charming villages. Finally you will cycle back to your castle hotel in Klink.
Day 3: Klink - Schorssow, ~45 km
In the morning you will ride along Lake Jabeler See. Make a little side trip to Damerower Werder where you can observe deer and wisents. Not far from here the manor house called ‘Neu Gaarz’ and the renaissance castle called ‘Ulrichshusen’ which are known as cultural centers of the region will welcome you. Then you will cycle across slightly rolling hills and moraines in “Mecklenburg’s Switzerland”. Your destination castle hotel lies in the basin-shaped valley of Lake Malchin, near Schorssow.
Day 4: Around Lake Malchiner See, ~38 or 50 km
Cycle north across Mecklenburg’s rolling hills to Teterow. You will first cross the landscaped park in Burg Schlitz. Former Count von Schlitz had this beautiful artistic garden planted during Romanticism around 200 years ago. The region was given the name “Mecklenburg’s Switzerland” during that time period. The little city of Teterow is famous for its races on the grass race track and is known as “Schilda of the North”. There is a sign on the town square which says, “Centre of the World”. And afterwards you roll back to your castle hotel in Schorssow.
Day 5: Schorssow - Gross Plasten, ~45 km
Cycle south across the rolling hills of “Mecklenburg’s Switzerland” and through the national park. You will see many manor houses in the villages on your way. The meaningful ensemble of castle and castle grounds in Basedow was founded in the 16th century for the van Hahn family. The moated castle in the small town of Liepen is under monumental protection. Enjoy another night in a castle hotel in Gross Plasten.
Day 6: Gross Plasten - Klink, ~32 or 57 km
Today’s leg of the tour takes you through the Müritz National Park on the eastern banks of Lake Müritz. You may want to visit the information center in Federow to watch a film about the habitat and life of sea hawks and their eyries. The harbor at Waren invites you to spend some time enjoying local cuisine at any one of the many restaurants and cafés. And, what better way to top off the day than with a stroll through town or a visit to the Müritz Museum? Afterwards, cycle along the lake back to Klink, where you will spend the night.
