From the Danube's source to the world's highest steeple. Make cycling holidays along the Danube in Southern Germany and discover the beautiful Baar landscape which stretches between the Black Forest and the Swabian Alb. The bike tour leads through the wildly romantic Danube valley and later on through the gentle, fertile foothills of Upper Swabia to Ulm, the Swabian Bavarian double city with the highest church tower in the world. There are many important historical buildings along the route such as the monastery in Beuron, the very active mother monastery of a Benedictine congregation and Sigmaringen Castle, which is still lived in by the Hohenzoller family.

Day 1: Arrival in Donaueschingen
Naturally, the Danube tour begins at the Danube spring in Donaueschingen. Visit the well, where the mighty river begins, in the pretty palace park of the castle “Fürstlich Fürstenbergische Schloss”. Spend the day for exploring the town.
Day 2: Donaueschingen - Fridingen, ~52 km /33 miles
Today you start your bike tour alongside the young Danube. Near the town of Möhringen you reach the Danube sinkhole, a place where on about 200 days per year the river water disappears in the cracks of the Late Jurassic layer until it resurfaces 12 km further downstream in the “Aachtopf”. You pass Möhringen and reach Tuttlingen. The main attraction here is the Protestant church. The classical town hall and the many sculptures in the center are also worth seeing. Finally you will arrive in Fridingen to soend the night.
Day 3: Fridingen - Scheer or Mengen, ~52 km/33 miles
The bike trails continues beside the Danube, past romantic mills and picturesque corners of the valley. Soon Wildenstein Castle comes into view and just a little bit later you pass Werenwag, the famous medieval musicians’ castle. Via Hausen im Tal you continue to Sigmaringen. Here you can see one of Europe’s largest private weapon collections. Stroll through the historical town center or visit the local museum. You spend the night in Scheer or Mengen.
Day 4: Scheer or Mengen - Marchtal, ~50 km/32 miles
Today’s route starts out in the lovely forests and meadows of the open countryside of the Danube valley. Scheer was an ancient settlement of the Celts and Romans. Via Mengen, one of the five Habsburg towns by the upper Danube, you make your way to Hundersingen. Don’t miss Heuneburg Museum with the fascinating exhibit about Celtic settling from 600 - 400 b. C. The climb up to the museum is rewarded by a splendid view over the valley. You spend the night in Marchtal.
Day 5: Marchtal - Ulm, ~65 km/40 miles
Today’s route leads you along the rivers Ach and Blau to Blaubeuren. The Danube Bike Trail takes you to the towns Oberdischingen and Erbach. The Ach valley on the other hand is quite narrow and is flanked by hilly terrain on both sides. Via Schelkingen you continue to Blaubeuren with the impressive "Blautopf", the Blue Pot. Your final destination is Ulm on the border to Bavaria.
