The Carinthian lake paradise is the setting for this unique tour. The many and well established bike paths along the lakes are ideal for families and leisure cycler. Situated in the middle of the Alpe-Adria region, at the border between Austria, Italy and Slovenia, Carinthia is a country full of mountains and lakes, ideal to relax and practice sport. It`s quite difficult to select among the over 200 lakes, but the tour guides you to some of the most beautiful of them. Because of its particular climatic conditions, cycling is possible from April to October. The basis of the tour is Villach. The bike city is situated next to river Drau. Carinthia’s second largest town with some 60,000 inhabitants captivates visitors with its easy-going, Mediterranean lifestyle - perfect for gourmets, art lovers, shopaholics and those seeking relaxation. Starting there some parts of the tour are going along the Drau bike path, classified from ADFC as 5-star-quality-route.

Day 1: Arrival at Villach in Austria
Individual arrival at the starting-hotel in Villach.
Day 2: Lake Ossiach round trip, ~45 km
Follow the Seebach River out of Villach and shortly afterwards, the ruin of Landskron castle will appear reigning regally over the countryside. Soon you arrive at Lake Ossiach which lies idyllically amid the mountains. You will pass numerous seaside resorts and the old Ossiach Collegiate Church. The clear, deep green water invites you to stop and have a swim before returning to Villach.
Day 3: Villach - Lake Wörth - Klagenfurt - Villach, ~48 km
For the first few kilometers, the river Drau is pointing the way, passing by a countryside that has kept its naturalness even to the present. At the famous Lake Wörth, there are plenty offers for the entire family; public bathing beaches, boat rentals and boat trips on the lake. The route will take you through lively villages to Klagenfurt. By train you travel back to Villach.
Day 4: Villach - Tarvisio - Val Canale (Italy) - Villach, ~60 km
In the morning the train takes you to Tarvisio in Italy. The border town is a winter and summer sport center. The bike trip is going along the Ciclovia Alpe Adria bike path, build on the old railway line. The way leads down through the Val Canale and is very spectacular because you pass some tunnels and bridges high above the valley. You will pass typical Italian villages and unspoilt nature. You go back by train.
Day 5: Villach - Spittal an der Drau - Villach, ~40 km
Today’s ride starts with a train transfer to Spittal an der Drau. The city is dominated by a wonderful Renaissance castle. It is one of the most significant Renaissance buildings in Austria. Furthermore, the castle houses a museum for local history and is the site of several concerts and chorus recitals. The tour is going along the Drava cycle path and has been classified as 5-star-quality-route. In this section the path is leading along the river back to Villach.
Day 6: Villach - Hermagor - Lake Pressegg - Villach, ~56 km
By train you go to Hermagor. Today you follow the Gailtal bike path. The wide valley has kept its naturalness and the course is going along the river Gail. At the beginning you pass Lake Pressegg, it`s one of the smaller lakes in Carinthia and will invite all epicures to a relaxing break. Before reaching Villach, you pass a nature conservation area, resulting from a rock fall of the giant Dobratsch Mountain.
Day 7: Lake Faak round trip, ~35 km
Lake Faak awaits you on your last cycling day. It`s the emerald among the Carinthian lakes, not very big but quite warm and the water is turquoise like it is in the Caribbean. You leave Villach along the Drau bike path and turn off to the Gailtal bike path. Crossing the river Gail in Müllern you go through the Finkensteiner Moor to the lake. You drive round from the south to the east and go back to the Drau bike path, which is leading you back to the starting point. Another way to go back is using the boat on the river.
