Marvelous coastlines and lesser known back-country.
The Côte d’Azur is part of Provence and surely one of the most famous regions of France. On this guided bike holiday you'll discover everything the French Riviera has to offer. The group stays in a beautiful 4**** hotel with swimming pool near the beach for the week, so you don’t have to pack your suitcase every morning. And on the daily bike tours you'll experience the most interesting and beautiful spots, bays, and towns such as Nice, Cannes and Saint Tropez. But also amazing landscapes are awaiting you: Europe’s deepest canyon, the ‘Gorges du Verdon’ and the ‘Route Napoléon’. And you will love our picnics: Enjoying French wine and cheese in the sun is like paradise! That’s why France Bike’s director Prof. Dr. Dr. ce Josef Smets will guide these cycling holidays by himself!
Day 1: Arrival in Saint-Raphaël
Personal reception at the hotel and dinner with your tour guides. 4**** hotel with swimming pool, gym and very good cuisine. Not far to the beach. If you are arriving by plane in Nice, Marseille or Montpellier you can take the France-Bike Shuttle bus to St. Raphaël (details on request).
Day 2: Saint-Raphaël - Cannes, ~50 km/31 miles
First highlight of this bike trip: ride along the Estérel coast to the famous cinema city of Cannes and its famous promenade ‚La Croisette’. Train back to St. Raphaël.
Day 3: Verdon-Canyon - Sainte Croix Lake - Aups, ~40 km/24 miles
Transport to the Gorges du Verdon Natural Park, to Comps sur Artuby. Then cycling into the valley of Verdon to the village Aiguines, where you have a wonderful view to the lake Sainte Croix. From here you are pedaling through lush hills full of olive trees and downhill to Aups. The bus takes you back to the hotel.
Day 4: Saint-Raphaël - Saint-Tropez, ~40 km/24 miles
Bike trip to Fréjus with its Roman Amphitheater, Romanesque church from the 5th century. Then you follow the coast to Sainte-Maxime and Port-Grimaud. Saint-Tropez in the most beautiful bay of the Côte d'Azur is also worth seeing. Through vineyards we continue to the picturesque village of Ramatuelle and further on to the nice light house Phare Camarat, then along the 4 km long sandy beach of Cavalaire and back to the hotel (by bus).
Day 5: Grasse - Route Napoléon - Grasse, ~40 km/24 miles
Transfer to Grasse, the city of perfume. We take our bikes and follow in Napoleon's footsteps, on the small roads he took in 1815 after returning from Elba to return to Paris. We follow the river Loup from its source to Grasse.
Day 6: Antibes - Nice, ~50 km/30 miles
We take the train to Golfe Juan. From there we cycle along the coast to the Cap d’Antibes. The Picasso-Museum is really worth seeing. From Cagnes-sur-Mer we cycle on to Nice, which seems almost Italian! Back to the hotel by train.
