This bike tour leads along the Bavarian lakes Kochelsee and Staffelsee and brings you up to Germany's highest mountain. On the foothills of the Bavarian Alps you will discover a beautiful countryside marked by rivers and lakes. That’s why this region is often called the ’Blue Land’. The tour starts in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, a lively town famous for winter sports. Nearby is Germany's highest mountain, Zugspitze, at 2.961 m. You will go up there by train at the end of the tour. But before there is still a bike tour left to do. So along the valley of the Isar River you will ride to the famous spa town of Bad Tölz. Take your time and discover a region that is well-known for its countrified lifestyle. Lovely decorated villages and old abbeys are on your way and on the banks of the Kochelsee and the Staffelsee you will enjoy the untouched Bavarian nature before returning to Garmisch-Partenkirchen and the famous Zugspitze.

Day 1: Arrival in Bad Tölz
Day 2: Bad Tölz - Tegernsee - Bad Tölz, ~45 km/28 miles
Today’s loop leads you through a gently hilly countryside to the Lake Tegernsee. The landscapes are magnificent and from Gmünd you will have a perfect view over the whole lake with the impressive mountains of the Alps at the horizon. Passing by small villages, marsh lands and abbeys you will ride back to Bad Tölz at the end of the day.
Day 3: Bad Tölz - Kochelsee - Murnau, ~45 km/28 miles
Today’s stage leads you to the Bad Heilbrunn, which once was the royal spa town of the Bavarian kings. Afterwards you will arrive in Benediktbeuern, where you can visit the famous Abbey of the Salesians of Don Bosco which was founded in 740. From here you will ride to the Lake Kochelsee and on to Murnau, the final destination of today’s stage.
Day 4: Murnau - Starnberger See - Murnau, ~45 km/28 miles
Today you can choose between two alternatives. Either you can take the train to Tutzing from where you cycle along the Lake Starnberg back to Murnau. Or you can make a round trip through the countryside around Murnau which is also called the ‘Blue Land’.
Day 5: Murnau - Garmisch-Partenkirchen, ~35-50 km/22-31 miles
Today you will discover the ‘Murnau Moos’, one of the biggest natural preserved marsh districts in Europe. Later wards you will follow the Loisach River to Garmisch Partenkirchen. You can also extent this stage by riding to the Lake Eibsee before arriving in Garmisch Partenkirchen.
Day 6: Day off in Garmisch Partenkirchen
Day 7: Garmisch Partenkirchen - Bad Tölz, ~59 km/37 miles
In the morning you will go to Mittenwald by train or bike. From here you follow the Isar to the Werdenfelser Land. Along this impressive river with its green shimmering color you will pass by Krün and Wallgau before arriving at Lake Sylvenstein.
