This Baltic Sea tour in Northern Germany is one of our personal favorites. Explore the coast all the way from Lübeck to Stralsund. Or, one could say, „from Marzipan to Bismarck Herring.„ Enjoy the Hanseatic architecture, lively sea side resorts, beaches, and the Baltic Sea breezes.
Day 1: Arrival in Lübeck
Stroll through the Old Town. Lübeck is a jewel of a city with a beautiful waterfront, ponds, numerous shops and quaint locales.
Day 2: Lübeck > Wismar, ~58 or 77 km (36-48 miles)
Cycle (or take the train) to Travemünde (20 km), where the Baltic Sea cycling trails begin. Take the ferry to Priwall or cycle to the Boltenhagen. Continue along Wismar Bay to Wismar. Wismar is one of the most beautiful hanseatic cities in Mecklenburg-Pomerania. The magnificent architecture mirrors the strength of the once mighty Hanseatic League.
Day 3: Wismar > Rerik or Kühlungsborn, ~32 or 61 km (20-38 miles)
A trip to the island of Poel? No problem, as this island is connected to the mainland via a bridge. Shortly before Kühlungsborn, you cross Basdorf. Climb the lighthouse and enjoy enjoy the breathtaking view over the Baltic Sea. With good visibility, you can even see the island of Fehmarn.
Day 4: Rerik or Kühlungsborn > Warnemünde or Rostock, ~21 or 56 km (13-35 miles)
The highlight of today's trip is Heiligendamm, Germany's oldest seaside resort, and the Doberan Minster. The „Ghost forest„ on the steep banks of Nienhagen is a special scenic experience..
Day 5: Warnemünde/Rostock > Rimnitz Damgarten Fischland, ~17-62 km (11-39 miles)
Take the Warnow ferry (incl.) to Hohe Düne. If you want to find out all about amber, visit the Amber Museum in Ribnitz Damgarten. There is an apiary nearby, where everything revolves around honey. Once you've seen it all, cycle back to the Baltic Sea to your hotel on the Fischland or stay at your hotel booked in Ribnitz Damgarten.
Day 6: Fischland-Darß > Prerow, Zingst or Darss, ~30 or 65 km (19-40 miles)
After your break, continue on to the Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft National Park - migration grounds for common cranes and grey geese.
Day 7: Zingst or Darss > Stralsund, ~42 or 57 km (26-35 miles)
From the small vinetown of Barth, your journey takes you along the Bodden coast to the Strelasund. In Stralsund, where the OZEANEUM (self-guided tour) and St. Mary's Church await you.
Day 8: Departure from Stralsund
Departure after breakfast. Travelers are responsible for their own transportation home.
