On well-chosen smaller by-roads and cycling lanes you will discover the wine region Alsace on this bike tour. But this is by far not all. The endless cornfields are also part of this bike vacation as it is the Vosges range of mountains. So within only five days you will discover so many different types of landscapes. And on each single stage you will pass typical charming villages marked by their paved streets and the unique, beautiful colored frame houses. On the other hand historic charged cities like for example Strasbourg, Sélestat and Colmar are really worth to be seen. So take a break in either a wine cellar or in a comfortable beer garden and discover the gastronomic highlights of a region that since many centuries is marked by both French and German culture. What an incredible mixture.
Day 1: Arrival in Strasbourg
Come to the Alsatian capital, settle down in your charming 3*** hotel and then take the time to discover this impressive town. Visit the majestic Cathedral of Notre Dame with the astronomical clock and stroll through the famous tanner’s district. Countless museums are waiting for you, too. This European Metropole, probably also the best preserved French town for bike riders has got something for everybody.
Day 2: Strasbourg > Obernai, ~42 km
On your first bike stage you will cross the historic heart of Strasbourg with the world famous Alsatian architecture marked by frame houses. Then little by little you will ride out of town by following a small canal that leads you within the heart of the Alsace wine region. To your right you will see the first smaller mountains of the Vosges. Follow the ‘voie verte’ bike lane passing by charming Alsatian villages on your way to Obernai, another highlight of the tour. The medieval fortressed city with its colorful frame houses will astonish you.
Day 3: Obernai > Sélestat, ~30 km
Get on your bike and follow the smaller by roads and cycling paths along the Alsatian wine road. We recommend to make a short detour of about 2 kilometers to discover the charming village of Saint-Pierre where a short break in the brewery by the same name is obligatory. Afterwards you continue your ride to Sélestat.
Day 4: Sélestat > Colmar, ~40 km
Follow the winding way along the vineyard and cornfields to the south. On top of the hills some impressive castles like for example the château Kientzheim or Haut-Koenigsbourg are just breathtaking. And finally you will arrive in Colmar where once again you will enjoy typical beautiful Alsatian architecture. Here you will spend the night in an elegant 3*** hotel in the heart of the town.
Day 5: Departure
Your wonderful bike tour will end after the breakfast. On request extra nights are of course possible. The train ride back to Strasbourg is included.
