Lake Balaton
Balaton, it means sun, culture, hospitality and most of all relaxation! This bicycle tour offers the opportunity to circle the lake over the course of a week, and to see the prettiest little corners of it. The route never strays far from the shoreline, allowing you to take a quick break and go for a dip in the lake at any time. Being very shallow, the lake is very nearly a paradise for families.  | Day 1: Zamardi (Siofok region) Independent arrival in Zamardi. Night’s accommodations in a comfortable apartment. (The apartment is available to you throughout the entire trip). |
| Day 2: Zamardi This first day of your trip is a very easy one, and the perfect debut to your week. In the early evening, you enjoy a wine-tasting with dinner, organized by the wine-maker himself. On the way to the tasting, you have the option of riding to a look-out tower, to catch a breath-taking view over the entire Balaton lake. |
| Day 3: Zamardi → Balatonfenyves, ~ 42 km/26 miles Your route on this day takes you over Szántód, along the beach of Zámardi to Balatonföldvár, with its picturesque port. Further along the coastline, you reach Balatonlelle, a place which played an important role in the development of the entire region. You spend the night in Balatonfenyves, in a romantic hunter’s inn, embedded in a large, private property, well-suited for an evening stroll. |
| Day 4: Balatonfenyves → Vonyarcvashegy, ~ 33 km/21 miles Today’s leg of the journey has much to offer. You ride along the shore of the lake, until you reach Keszthely, famous for the castle Festetic and the Balaton museum. In the afternoon you reach Vonyarcvashegy – the goal of the day’s journey. |
| Day 5: Vonyarcvashegy → Zamardi, ~ 80 km/50 miles including 30 km/19 miles by train) At the beginning of the day you make a bike tour to the Kalibecken, a lowland like the valley of a volcano (lunch included). After a train ride you keep on cycling along the northern shore of the lake and the famous peninsula of Tihany. Afterwards, you take the ferry back to Zamardi (not included). |
| Day 6: Zamardi Today you have time to recuperate on the Balaton shore. Towards the evening, you are invited to a Schnaps-tasting in a distillery. Under professional direction, you learn about the diverse liqueurs that come from the region. To conclude the night, you make a little trip around the local vineyards by horse-drawn carriage. |
| Day 7: North shore circuit, ~ 30/70 km/19/43 miles) After another ride on the ferry, you arrive at the north shore. You ride through the well-known areas Balatonfüred and Siófok, back to Zamardi. This day’s route can be shortened to 30 km, if you decide to take a boat-ride. |
| Day 8: Zamardi The tour ends, but you may extend your stay in Zamardi (Room but not board). |
